Readings Handout #3
Dr. Rezelman

American Literature refers to your English textbook.  You have Mr. Kidd to "thank" for pointing out this resource to me.

When you use the Oxford database, make sure you are reading the article from the correct book!  (For example, there may be articles with the same title in both the Oxford Companion to U.S. History and the Oxford Companion to American Military History; make sure you are reading the article from the book I list below.)  “I accidentally read the article from the wrong book” is not an acceptable excuse for failing to complete the assigned reading.

Oh, and one final thing: it may seem odd, but we're actually making very little use of the United States at War database in this reading handout.  I spent a lot of time looking at their articles re the American Revolution.  The problem generally is that their articles are too long, i.e. I'd rather assign a one-page summary of a battle from the American History database than assign a 6-page article that goes into much more detail on the same subject from United States at War.  (You're welcome!)  As you can see we have made some use of it, but for the most part I've stuck with the briefer summaries in American History
